The 9th Meeting of the COMCEC Transport and Communications Working Group was held on March 16th, 2017 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Increasing Broadband Internet Penetration in the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 12 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Transport and Communications Working Group namely; Egypt, Gabon, The Gambia, Guinea, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Turkey. Representatives of the Orange, Türk Telekom, Turkcell, Vodafone and COMCEC Coordination Office (CCO) have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in the field of broadband internet penetration in their respective countries. Additionally, the issue of policies that can be implemented to increase broadband penetration was discussed. The Meeting has considered the Studies “Increasing Broadband Internet Penetration in the OIC Member Countries” and the “COMCEC Transport and Communications Outlook 2016” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.

The 9th Meeting of the COMCEC Trade Working Group was held on March 9th, 2017 in Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Single Window Systems in the OIC Member States”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 26 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Trade Working Group. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, ICDT, SESRIC, SMIIC, ITFC, WCO, UNESCAP and UND have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, achievements and challenges in single window systems in their respective countries. The Ninth Meeting of the COMCEC Agriculture Working Group was held on February 23rd, 2017 in Crowne Plaza Hotel Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Reducing Food Waste in the OIC Member Countries”.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 11 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Agriculture Working Group namely Afghanistan, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Jordan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, UN Environment Programme (UNEP), Association for Solidarity of Environmental Organizations, UNMAŞ A.Ş, and SESRIC have also attended the Meeting.

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 15 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Tourism Working Group namely Algeria, Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Egypt, The Gambia, Gabon, Indonesia, Iran, Kyrgyzistan, Malaysia, Mozambique, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Turkey. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, ICDT, SESRIC, SMIIC, Center for Halal Quality Certification, Dinar Standard, IH&RA, Instituto Halal, Halalbooking, Sofyan Hotels and Tripfez have also attended the Meeting.

The COMCEC Coordination Office has completed the project evaluations submitted under the 4th Project Call and announced the final-list of the successful projects to receive COMCEC Project Funding in 2017 period.

In order to begin the project activities, the next phase is the signing of the Operational and Financial Contract. The Development Bank of Turkey will share the details about signing the Operational and Financial Contract with project owners soon.

Furthermore, a training program regarding the COMCEC Project Funding procedures will be organized in the second half of March 2017. The details and logistical issues about this event will be shared later.

Under the 4th Call for Project Proposals of the COMCEC Project Funding, final phase project submission period has ended. The final-list will be announced at the early February.

Chaired by the President of the Republic of Turkey and powered by 57 members and 5 observer members, the 32nd Ministerial Session of the COMCEC was held at Istanbul Congress Center from November 21 to 24, 2016.

The 8th Meeting of the COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group was held on November 3rd, 2016 in Crowne Plaza Hotel Ankara, Turkey with the theme of “Forced Migration in the OIC Member Countries: Policy Framework Adopted by Host Countries”

The Meeting was attended by the representatives of 13 Member States, which have notified their focal points for the Poverty Alleviation Working Group namely, Albania, Algeria, Cameroon, Gabon, the Gambia, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Uganda. Representatives of COMCEC Coordination Office, SESRIC, UNHCR, KIZILAY (Turkish Red Crescent), IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation and Turkiye Diyanet Foundation have also attended the Meeting.

The Representatives of the Member States have shared their experiences, successes and challenges regarding forced migration during the Meeting. The Meeting has considered the Studies titled “Forced Migration in the OIC Member Countries: Policy Framework Adopted by Host Countries” commissioned by the COMCEC Coordination Office and the “COMCEC Poverty Outlook 2016: Human Development in OIC” prepared by the COMCEC Coordination Office.
